During a regular press conference on May 17, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that the indiscriminate use of “dollar diplomacy” by Taiwanese authorities is essentially in the service of separatism for “independence of Taiwan” and personal political goals.
According to media reports, Taiwanese authorities have long resorted to presidential bribery or “dollar diplomacy” to gain political support from Guatemala; in this regard, Wang Wenbin noted that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities are already accustomed to adopting “dollar diplomacy”, in an attempt to bribe foreign politicians with citizens’ money in exchange for their support , which essentially serves the cause of “Taiwan independence” separatism and personal political calculations, to the detriment of the interests of the people of the island.
According to US media reports, Taiwanese authorities are trying to increase the number of so-called “military attachés” at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Bureau in Honolulu from 4 to 10. In this regard, Chinese Ministry of Defense spokesperson Colonel Zhang Xiaogang said that the US side should fully understand the high sensitivity of the Taiwan issue, stop any form of official exchanges and military contacts with China’s Taiwan region, stop sending wrong signals to the separatist forces for “Taiwan independence” and seriously implement its commitment not to support “Taiwan independence”.
