MAZZE’ – While the city council is preparing to renew itself with the elections scheduled for 8 and 9 June, there is political controversy in the town over the situation of the cemetery in the Tonengo hamlet, where frequent and recent rains have created some critical issues. The issue was raised by the outgoing councillor, Stefano Anzola, who also addressed Arpe and firefighters, as well as asking for documentation of the case from the Municipality.

«There has been a lack of serious and careful planning on maintenance starting from the historic center of Mazzè, the capital, up to the hamlets – explains the minority municipal councilor, Stefano Anzola – The failures of the slabs in the Tonengo cemetery are emblematic in this sense. Because no attention was paid to the state of the places. After the expansion works in 2018, no steps were taken to prepare the necessary maintenance interventions, despite repeated reports from citizens to the Municipality and the financial availability, because the surplus not tied to the budget would have allowed intervention in time, preventing and, consequently, avoiding what happened following these days of bad weather.”

From the opposition benches, Anzola also points the finger at the antenna present near the cemetery: «After the concession for the installation of the 5G antenna was given, a more meticulous control was not even imagined once the works were completed. Because after less than a year, the area presents glaring critical issues. For these reasons, as soon as I was informed of the incident, I submitted the report/request for documentation to the Municipality and for information to ARPA, the Fire Brigade and the other authorities in charge of safety. While waiting to receive an answer, but above all to see a decisive intervention planned, those who lose out in many ways are the residents of Casale and Tonengo: some cannot even go and change the flowers on the tombstones of their late deceased. It’s a situation that could have been avoided. Furthermore, the situation could worsen further, in step with the weather conditions.”
