the women’s manifesto for the city”

Women desire and don’t hide it. They look up, to push themselves towards the stars. They do it with their wisdom, based on the experience of daily life, they want to imagine a new symbolic order, create a fracture with respect to clichés, stale and gangrenous mechanisms, distortions, muffled and limited visions.

Thus, last May 28th the women of the “Donna, Vita, Libertà” coordination met at Palazzo dei Celestini to present their political manifesto for the city and dialogue with the candidates for the office of mayor and the candidates for the city council on proposals that compose it. They titled it “Call to Desire: the women’s manifesto for the city”.

A call made on the occasion of the event held for the anniversary of March 8, when the women present were invited to reflect on their desires for the future city. The result is a manifesto, divided into points grouped into thematic categories, which focuses on the essential services for the well-being of the community, on the desire to encourage a virtuous path of relationships and participation, on the need to imagine a different future for our city .

The two mayoral candidates who attended, Vincenzo di Staso and Antonio Tasso, and a large representation of candidates for the municipal council from all the coalitions discussed this in a fruitful and calm dialogue, also debating legality, services, and female representation. One proposal above all, highlighted in the ‘manifesto’, received full approval from all those present: the request to activate, in the first 100 days of office, the women’s consultation, a consultative and participatory body on all issues of the community. Absent due to unavailability were the candidates Galli and La Marca, who guaranteed their adhesion to the initiative with the presence and speeches of numerous candidates for the Council.

The “Woman, Life, Freedom” Coordination is a movement born spontaneously in October 2022, in support and in the name of the Iranian revolt, for women and beyond. From the beginning it has supported actions to combat violence against women, it has reflected on the symbolic feminine, contributed to projects to enhance the culture of differences and inclusion, it has celebrated women, filling this word, party, with its most sincere value , or rather that of being a sacred occasion. It has always done so by involving as many interlocutors and professional fields as possible, seeking and obtaining a discussion, engaging in active politics from below, with the desire, too, that this becomes a new decision-making method of public affairs.
