The truck trailer catches fire in the tunnel: the A14 motorway remains closed in both directions. The accident occurred shortly after 2pm today, at kilometer 309+900 northbound, just before the entrance to the Monte Renzo tunnel, near the San Benedetto del Tronto junction.
Having realized the flames, the driver of the vehicle proceeded to detach the trailer from the truck, which, however, he continued his journey independently, first hitting the guardrail and then a passing car. Fortunately for the man, after treatment on site, it was not necessary to be transferred to the emergency room.
The firefighters of the local detachment arrived on site immediately, supported by a tanker from Ascoli. Once the fire was extinguished, the accident area was cleaned up.
The highway remained closed in both directions for the time necessary for rescue operations. Between Pedaso and San Benedetto there were up to two kilometers of queues, while 3 kilometers of queues formed at the mandatory exit of San Benedetto del Tronto. Also present were highway personnel and traffic police officers.
