«It was an accident, I was cleaning my gun and a shot went off. She was sitting in front of me and I hit her in the face”, said Giampiero Gualandi, 63, arrested for the murder of Sofia Stefani, a 33-year-old former security colleague who died yesterday with a gunshot to the head at the command of Anzola Emilia (Bologna), shot right from his own service weapon. «We had a relationship, she came to visit me in the office. While we were chatting I was cleaning the gun and suddenly the shot went off.”
Crime of passion?
Being a traffic policeman was Sofia’s dream. The young woman was an agent in the command twinned with Anzola, that of Sala Bolognese, where, however, she had no longer been on duty for some time. The police are investigating the reasons why she was there, also to understand the motive for the murder. Sofia was killed by the service weapon of her former commander, as well as her superior last year, Giampiero Gualandi. At the time of the tragedy, there were two other officers on duty at the police command: they have already been interviewed by the investigators, coordinated by the prosecutor Stefano Dambruoso. They confirmed that they had long suspected that the two had an intimate relationship, but nothing more than suspicions and office chatter. Also because Gualandi is married and Sofia had a boyfriend. A boy who last night was also interviewed at length by the investigators to try to clearly outline the contours of the relationship between the two colleagues. At the moment, in fact, it cannot even be ruled out that it was a crime with a passionate motive.
Militancy in the Democratic Party
Sofia was also very involved in social work and was active in the Democratic Party, constantly following appointments and events, says those who saw her until a few days ago. It is no coincidence that the secretary of the Bolognese Democratic Federation, Federica Mazzoni, also wanted to express words of condolences for the affair: «Unfortunately, it is still a probable feminicide, that of Sofia Stefani – she said -. An incredible pain that however does not allow us to remain silent, neither as citizens, nor as institutions. While awaiting investigations, now is the time to join the family, to whom on behalf of the entire Democratic Party of Bologna I offer our deepest condolences and our closeness.”
