Fires: damage in Sicily, Irfis publishes notice for 2.9 million – Economy

Irfis FinSicilia has published the public notice for extraordinary contributions for the damage caused on the island by last summer’s fires. This is a 2.9 million euro measure intended for those who have suffered damage to their real estate and movable assets following the heat wave and fires which have affected, starting from 23 July 2023, the provinces of Catania, Messina , Palermo and Trapani and for which a specific ordinance was issued by the head of Civil Protection. Thanks to the Region’s decree, a ceiling was created, through an increase in the Sicily Fund, intended for the granting of contributions amounting to 2.9 million euros and Irfis–FinSicilia was appointed to manage the related benefits.

To access the contribution it is necessary, among other things, to be the owner of the assets and to have reported the damage caused by fires and heat waves before the date of the decree determining the allocation (9 April 2024). There are limits to the contribution. In particular, for the restoration of the real estate unit intended as the owner’s main residence, this cannot exceed 50 thousand euros and if the home is different from the owner’s main home the limit is 25 thousand euros. For the restoration of the common parts of a residential building, the limit is 15 thousand euros for each building and for the reimbursement of expenses relating to the restoration or replacement of destroyed or damaged movable property located in the damaged real estate unit, intended as the owner’s main residence or the owner of a real or personal right of enjoyment, the maximum limit is 5 thousand euros. In the presence of insurance compensation, or other types of contribution, paid or to be paid to the applicant by another public body, for the same purposes, the maximum limits are reduced by 50%.

The notice is on the institutional website of Irfis (www.irfis.it) and on the website of the regional Department of Economy (www.regione.sicilia.it/ispetti/regione/strutture-regionali/assessorato-economia).
