Everything was ready for the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics. The police lined up in the square, the flag hoisted on the balcony of Palazzo Chigi, but then the meeting, initially scheduled for 3pm, was cancelled. What caused the meeting to fail is unclear, but the absence of Giorgia Meloni in the Council of Ministers for personal reasons is a clue. However, the meeting took place under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani. A lightning Council of Ministers. On the agenda is the decree of the President of the Council of Ministers on the acquisition by Cogne Acciai Speciali Spa of the entire share capital of Mannesmann Stainless Tubes GmbH and its subsidiaries. Despite his absence, Meloni still issued a note to express closeness to the Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, victim of an attack: «All my thoughts are with him, his family and the friendly Slovak people. Also on behalf of the Italian Government I wish to express the strongest condemnation of any form of violence and attack on the cardinal principles of democracy and freedom.”
