the fact that worries De Rossi

In recent matches, a defensive fragility has emerged, also ascertained by the numbers: the data on shots conceded should give pause for thought

From the first day he sat on the Roma bench, Daniele De Rossi wanted to impose a much more proactive playing philosophy. His team should have always set up matches with a more offensive approach, even if this would have necessarily entailed some more risks.

A line that has paid off for some time: Roma managed to move up several positions in the standings and also make a long way in the Europa League, thus obtaining results with the game proposed by the Capitoline coach.

However, in recent matches we have seen a more tired Roma and consequently also more fragile on a defensive level. The Roman newspaper Il Messaggero has highlighted a fact that cannot help but make us reflect.

The ‘braking’ of the Giallorossi goes hand in hand with a worrying increase in the number of conclusions conceded. Already in the match in Naples against Calzona’s men, which ended 2-2, Roma suffered 27 shots.

A total of 51 shots were taken against Bayer Leverkusen, 19 in the first leg at the Olimpico and 32 in the return. Juventus instead finished on 16 occasions, while Atalanta shot 24 times towards Roma’s goal.

In all, Mile Svilar, from the Maradona trip onwards, saw his opponents finish 118 times, for an average of 23.6 shots per game. Clearly not all of these shots represented a danger to the Giallorossi goal, but at the same time there were many decisive interventions by the 24-year-old goalkeeper. Suffice it to say that in the semi-final return to Leverkusen alone the goalkeeper was the protagonist of 12 saves.

A general problem, not just in the defensive department, which De Rossi will have to try to remedy in view of the last two days of the championship.
