Saint of the day, today 14 May we celebrate Saint Matthias the Apostle
Reading time: 1 minute
(Adnkronos) – Eusebius of Caesarea considers him one of the seventy-two disciples of the Lord. It is certain that after the Ascension, Peter, finding himself in the Cenacle with the apostles, Mary and other believers, numbering around 120 people, proposed to bring the number of apostles back to twelve, as had been the case at the Master’s will, choosing between those present one who had been with Jesus from the beginning. The community presents two candidates: Joseph known as the Just and Matthias. After a short prayer, lots are drawn and it falls on Mattia. He was killed in Sevastopol after being beheaded, and his relics, highly venerated, are preserved partly in Trier in Germany and partly in Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. Other authors want him to be a martyr in Ethiopia, or in Palestine where he would have been stoned as an enemy of the Mosaic law —[email protected] (Web Info)
