ROME (ITALPRESS) – The resident population in Lazio, defined on the basis of the Census as of 31 December 2022, amounts to 5,720,536 residents, an increase compared to 2021 (+5,654 individuals; +0.1%); almost three quarters of the population lives in the province of Rome (73.9%). The slight increase compared to 2021 is the result of the positive values of the internal migration balance, the foreign migration balance and the statistical adjustment, which exceed the loss due to the natural balance. In Lazio, as in the rest of the country, a new birth rate record has been reached.

There were 36,062 births (-1,175 compared to 2021). The mortality rate stands at 11.2 per thousand, unchanged compared to 2021, with a peak of 15.0 per thousand recorded in the province of Rieti. Women make up 51.6% of the resident population, exceeding men by over 178 thousand units, mainly due to greater female longevity. The average age rises compared to 2021 from 46.0 to 46.2 years. Latina is the youngest province (45.5 years), Rieti the oldest (48.3 years). Foreigners registered are 634,045 (+15,903 compared to 2021), 11.1% of the regional population. They come from 189 countries, mainly from Romania (31.0%), the Philippines and Bangladesh (6.7% for both). Just over half of the population (50.4%) lives in the two municipalities with over 100,000 inhabitants (Rome, which alone has over 2 million and 755 thousand, and Latina) and 16.6% in those with a population between 20,001 and 50,000 inhabitants. The mountain municipalities suffer the greatest population decrease (-0.6%) and have an older age structure (average age: 47.8 years). – Photo: Agenzia Fotogramma – (ITALPRESS). pc/com 13-May-24 12:21 .
