Damage to the Verano Brianza plant, Legnano takes a stand: “We are the injured party”

In the aftermath of the debacle Legnano playout (lilac overwhelmed 5-0 by Castellanzese) which established the Lilac relegation to Excellence, the turbulent waters do not calm down. Legnano who, through a statement published on its official channels, issued its response, defining itself as aggrieved party so long as the guarantee of public order is the exclusive responsibility of the police. Therefore the Lilac company intends to file a complaint against unknown persons for the crime of damage and disturbance of public order.

In relation to the events that occurred during the Legnano-Castellanzese play out at the Sportitalia Village in Verano Brianza, the AC Legnano club wishes to express its position and clarify some fundamental aspects relating to the responsibility for public order events.

First of all, it is essential to underline that the AC Legnano company has no skills or tools to guarantee public order during sporting events. This responsibility falls within the exclusive competence of the police, as established by article 12 of Legislative Decree no. 8/2007, which provides for the organization of adequate safety devices for sporting events of all levels.

Furthermore, the intervention of private citizens not authorized to carry out police and public order functions could not only be illegal, but also aggravate the situation, as indicated by article 18 of law no. 152/1975 on public security, which expressly prohibits unauthorized private surveillance activities.

AC Legnano, as the party injured by these events, which caused significant damage both to the property and to the image of the club, intends to protect itself by filing a complaint against unknown persons for the crimes of damage and disturbance of public order, as provided for by the Article 635 and 659 of the Penal Code.

Finally, the company reiterates its total condemnation for the acts of vandalism that occurred and its full confidence in the work of the competent authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible, in compliance with current regulations.

The company is committed to fully collaborating with the Police Headquarters and the National Amateur League to provide all the information and images necessary to support the investigations.
