Amara Solbiatese, Paternò wins in Florence

Paternò celebrates the victory against Solbiatese

Paternò wins the Coppa Italia Eccellenza final, beating Solbiatese at Bozzi. The final was 0-1 with Asero’s goal which was decisive for the Sicilian triumph. So bitter in the mouth for the Nerazzurri, Scapinello missed the penalty for a possible equalizer and in the end Rota’s boys were forced to surrender.

The pace of the match is very high right from the opening whistle, with the Sicilians risking breaking the deadlock straight away: follow-up service from Panarello for Greco and a right-footed shot from the number 8 on which Seitaj is very careful and deflects it for a corner. In the 10th minute Panarello again inspired Belluso’s cut to score from two steps, but the linesman’s flag went up to signal the rossoblù number 10 was offside. Paternò’s territorial dominance was officially sanctioned in the 16th minute, when Asero found the advantage with a flying cross-court smash that beat Seitaj and gave him the 1-0. Solbiatese, therefore, demonstrated once again in the match that they suffered from the initiatives of Panarello, author of the cross which then led to the opening goal. As the minutes pass, Paternò’s gusts become more and more impromptu and Solbia tries to put together some nice game plot. The most dangerous, probably, in the 41st minute, when Mondoni spread panic on the left flank and towed the ball to Manfrè who, with his left foot, missed the target defended by Romano.

In the second half it is clear how Paternò has changed its tactical approach: waiting and starting again to try to exploit the spaces left by a Solbiatese team who are more insistently looking for a draw. In the 8th minute a good counterattack by the Nerazzurri, in white suits for the occasion, orchestrated by Scapinello and Torraca, finally frees Mondoni in the penalty area. The number 22, fresh from the hat-trick against Oltrepo’ on the last day of the championship, frees himself in the strait, but his shot is muffled by Intzidis’ deflection and ends slowly in a corner, without creating any major dangers in Romano’s area. In the 15th minute, however, the Greek central defender intervened on Mondoni’s shot. For Ambrosino it’s a penalty kick. Captain Scapinello appears from the spot and is hypnotized by Romano who keeps his players ahead of him and gives a psychological blow to Rota’s boys. Despite everything, however, Solbiatese has the strength to continue attacking in a desperate search for an equalizer, without ever finding the target. Here then Paternò appears every now and then towards Seitaj, but the number 12 is always attentive. In the final double opportunity for Novello and Torraca, with Sangarè first and then Romano shielding the last attempts of the Solbiatese. With time almost up, Locati doesn’t make a good right-footed volley on yet another cut cross from Scapinello, wasting the last chance for the Nerazzurri.
