Tragedy in Noto, in the province of Syracuse, where a 10-month-old girl died after being rushed to hospital. The doctors’ attempts to resuscitate her were useless, there was nothing that could be done for the little girl. According to an initial reconstruction, she would have ingested some detergent, perhaps bleach.
What we know
The tragedy occurred in the afternoon, following what could appear to be a domestic accident. According to what was reported to investigators, the little girl accidentally fell into a bucket containing water and bleach. The Syracuse prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to understand what actually happened inside the house.
The girl’s mother raised the alarm and screamed as soon as she noticed it, drawing the attention of the neighbors. Without waiting for the ambulance to arrive, the little girl was taken to the Trigona hospital, which is located not far from the family’s home. In the emergency room she was treated by doctors, who couldn’t do much to keep her alive.
The investigations
Investigations underway. Investigators are trying to reconstruct what happened. The police were alerted by the emergency room around 4.45pm. When they went to the family’s home they found the mother in shock due to the tragedy, together with other children. Among the hypotheses being examined by investigators is the possibility that her baby put her head in the bucket or that it ended up on top of her while she was crawling.
“A mourning for the whole city. We are waiting for the evolution of the investigators’ investigations: it is a great pain for all of us and as a father I mourn this loss which creates a great void”, declared the mayor of Noto, Corrado Figura.
