Pogacar, Martinez, Thomas and Fortunato. These are the first four cyclists who have appeared at the Sanctuary of Oropa. Yesterday morning, before departure, Lorenzo had warned us: “Today I have carte blanche, if the big names aren’t there then I’ll leave.” And instead Fortunato he left anyway, even among the big namesbecause it’s right like this and we shouldn’t hold back.

On the other hand he had done his, Lutsenko was already safe. «I was next to Lutsenko for almost the entire race. When we got to the climb he had the situation under control in the sense that without me he wouldn’t have had any problems climbing, then from the flagship they told me to disengage and go off and chase. I tried to get the best result possible.”

What was the exact moment you realized you had in the legs the strength to attack? «In the last two kilometers when the Bora accelerated. Our captain was covered, Thomas and O’Connor were there, I was in the right positions and so I followed them: I wanted to finish second.”

After yesterday, your goals for this Giro they change? «No absolutely, I confirm again what I said yesterday. We work for Lutsenko and I will continue to look for opportunities like Oropa’s. And then I wait for the third week”.
