Portocannone remembers Father Bulmetti 25 years after his death

CANNON HOLDER. Yesterday marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the passing of Father Michele Bulmetti, Dehonian priest, soul of the parish in Gurëz, what in the 1990s was a village semi-destroyed by the disastrous results of Enver Hoxha’s dictatorship, between Tirana and Scutari.

To remember him, in the presence of the parish priest, Don Fernando Manna, the mayor Francesco Gallo and the municipal administrators.

«It is there that Father Bulmetti, despite his precarious health conditions, had chosen to be a missionary, in the poorest and most desolate countryside of Albania, indeed he was one of the first to leave, thanks to that strong feeling of brotherhood that unites us to that People.

And it is precisely there that Father Bulmetti, courageously succeeding a parish priest killed by the bloodthirsty assassins of the regime, rebuilt the Church (which had been razed to the ground), restoring strength, with his work, to Catholic traditions and, at the same time, new hope to the local community.

We have, in Portocannone, a small square named after him, in perpetual memory of his entire native community; his example is still alive, we are honored to have taken part in the commemoration, both religious and civil, together with his family.”
