DEATH OF MASSIMO DI FLORIO: USB, “REVIEW NIGHT SHIFT MODE AND WORK LOADS” | Current news

ATESSA – “It is not the time for controversy, it is only the time for pain, however, having ascertained the causes of death, we believe it is appropriate to look into the methods of using the night shift which in the plant has always been carried out on a voluntary basis, which implies the fact that many workers have been doing it for years or even decades.”

Thus, in a note, the USB union expresses its condolences for the death of Massimo Di Florio, 56-year-old forklift driver at the Stellantis factory in Atessa (Chieti), who passed away yesterday at the start of the night shift, inside the assembly workshop after falling ill.

“We have always raised the issue, also within the demands on pace and workload that we have been pursuing for some time and which a few weeks ago saw us promoting a sit-in in front of the SPSAL in Chieti together with Slai Cobas, trying to also inform workers about the risks they may encounter by working at night for long periods”, continues the USB.

“There are various scientific studies, the most important of which is that carried out by the IARC of Lyon, which have ascertained the significant increase in risk of many pathologies including cardiovascular diseases and neoplasms. The judiciary and the supervisory bodies will carry out all the necessary investigations but if we want to honor Massimo it is everyone’s duty to work to reduce the possibility of similar tragedies occurring”, concludes the USB.
