Open clash between Massimiliano Fedriga and the Dasi Network – International Solidarity Reception Rights – of Friuli Venezia Giulia. “The statements of the President of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region Fedriga relating to the publication of the “Invisible and Excluded” Report on the condition of many foreign people without welcome in Udine, where it claims that “the numbers are given by the Prefectures”, they are serious for the message they transmit on a cultural level as they debase the fundamental role of civil society associations and organisations”, we read in a note sent by the same Network “In achieving their objectives, civil society organizations carry out studies and research and carry out evaluations of the work of the public administration, without receiving intimidation. Each of their public interventions must be evaluated exclusively on the authority and validity of what is supported”, continues the note. “It should also be noted that the Prefecture of Udine has neither denied the existence of the described serious situation of Cavarzerani nor has it provided data that are significantly different from the picture represented by the aforementioned Report”. The document was presented only a few days ago, above all in the need to underline the presence of 150 people with the right to reception but still crammed into a disused part of the former Cavarzerani barracks in Udine.
“Finally, it should be noted that the number of asylum seekers welcomed in the regional territory (4,250 people as of 15.02.24, according to data from
Ministry of the Interior) is generally modest and not anomalous compared to the national average: Friuli Venezia Giulia is in 14th place in Italy in absolute terms and in 5th place in relative terms compared to the population. However, it is very alarming that the reception model most followed in the region is that of the concentration of people in degraded and ghettoizing structures which produce social discomfort and great waste of public resources, which makes Friuli Venezia Giulia itself undoubtedly the most evident case in the national panorama regarding the bad management public welcome”, ends the note,
