That of artificial intelligence is a rapidly growing marketworth in Italy of 760 million euros, and which in 2023 increased by 52% compared to the previous year. This is what emerges from the studies carried out by Politecnico di Milano which also highlights the fears, for 77% of Italians, regarding this technology, especially with reference to the world of work. The Polytechnic itself estimates how, 10 years from now, the new capabilities of the machines could carry out the work of 3.8 million people in Italy.

But should workers be afraid of artificial intelligence? We asked Cosmano Lombardo, young Calabrian entrepreneurfounder of Search on media Group, a corporate group that has been operating in the digital sector for years and creator of the WMF – international innovation fair.
«Workers must not be afraid of artificial intelligence – explains Lombardo -. The World Economic Forum has estimated that there will be 97 million new jobs in 2025. Three of these have already become reality: the artificial intelligence engineer, the machine learning specialist and the AI ethics specialist.”

But at what point is artificial intelligence in its evolution today?
«Artificial intelligence is in an important implementation phase. The three most affected sectors are the information and communications sector, manufacturing and the financial services sector. Growth of +6 trillion dollars is estimated by 2033. But social spheres are also affected by the positive implementations of artificial intelligence. The growth linked to the health sector, the world of education and that of social services will be notable.”

In March the European Parliament passed the first law on artificial intelligence, aiming to protect fundamental rights, democracy, the rule of law and environmental sustainability from high-risk AI systems, while promoting innovation . In Italy, a few days ago, the Council of Ministers approved a bill on artificial intelligence which is now being examined by the Chambers.
“Good legislation will certainly have to take the European reference into consideration, but it will also have to strengthen support for businesses and workers to be able to implement the benefits of AI.”

So what can we expect in the near future regarding AI?
«Future prospects for this tool include improvements in automation and data analysis, with applications ranging from medicine to urban mobility. The main challenges concern the ethical question, the privacy of user data and the errors that are defined as the “bias” of artificial intelligence. Then I believe that the greatest challenge is to seize all the opportunities of artificial intelligence and see it as a tool at the service of us human beings to improve our productivity, to make work easier and thus build a better future.”
