The region Friuli Venezia Giulia renews its doubts about the environmental impact of the project to double the railway between Koper and Divačajust beyond the border, and in particular on its effects on the ecosystem of Val Rosandra, a particularly valuable natural area.

And through the Ministry of the Environment, it asks Ljubljana for further investigations and environmental and landscape mitigation measures.

The resolution approved by the Regional Council goes in this direction.

The plan calls for exploit security tunnelsalready built parallel to the first track, for the laying of another track and their connection through the construction of new viaducts.

And the Council requests that more detailed information be provided regarding the potential involvement of the various environmental matrices of the Rosandra valley with particular regard to the karst environment and the affected waterways.

The observations are part of the cross-border public consultation procedure, launched by the Ministry itself on 24 March.

A formal framework in which the Region acted as a collector to put on the table, in addition to its own observations and those of its agencies (including the health company), also the findings of the municipalities of San Dorligo della Valle, Muggia and Trieste.

A procedure at the end of which a cross-border environmental impact assessment must be issued, which is decisive for moving on to the executive phase of the work.
