There is the so-called “service record” involved, i.e. a certification which, through an analysis of the war missions carried out, can allow him to reconstruct the damage and ask for damages, among Franco Di Mare and the Rai. The journalist, in the interview with “Che tempo che fa” by Fabio Fazio on Nove, accused the public company of abandoning him when he discovered his illness: the tumor, a mesothelioma, he contracted during one of the expeditions abroad, where he would have entered into a contract with asbestos. But Rai, from an initial reconstruction, had already moved when the previous management was at the top.

In his public complaint, Franco Di Mare explicitly mentions the “previous managements”, i.e. when Fabrizio Salini was at the head of Rai, from 2018 to 2021, and Carlo Fuortes, from 2021 to 2023. The personnel managers were Felice Ventura and Francesco Spadafora. The former was aware of the situation, but given his contract was expiring, he may have left the matter in the hands of his successor. At that moment Franco Di Mare’s illness had just emerged. It is Carlo Fuortes who then took over the management of the case, turning it over to the relevant offices.

Yet Rai CEO Roberto Sergio and CEO Giampaolo Rossi only became aware last night of the Franco Di Mare affair, to whom «they express all their human closeness and assure their willingness to do everything possible to allow the journalist to reconstruct what he requested”, Rai said in a note. The process at this moment would not be in the hands of Rai but of Inail, the body that has the task of certifying the possible correlation between trips abroad and cancer. The request for settlement, however, initiated by Di Mare’s lawyers against Rai, before knowing the outcome of the case, would have been suspended by the company pending Inail certification, without which it could not start any liquidation.
