From next May 1st they will join the ranks of the unemployed in Taranto. They are the former Isola Verde workers involved in the Green Passage project which will expire tomorrow, April 30, and for which at the moment there is no extension on the horizon.
The Municipality of Taranto does not have sufficient financial resources as the deputy mayor Gianni Azzaro pointed out when asked on the subject by councilor Massimiliano Di Cuia in the last municipal council meeting. Although he then immediately added that discussions have already been initiated with the extraordinary commissioner for land reclamation and the Puglia Region to prevent this group of workers from finding themselves without work and without any income support.
The Green Passage project was financed by Cis Taranto after a long series of agreements with the institutions. “But after a year and a half that the centre-right has been in government with Minister Fitto, owner of the Cis Taranto, – attacks Mattia Giorno, former municipal councilor and PD leader who meanwhile stands in solidarity with the workers – not even a meeting has ever been held in the general silence from the mayor and the administration, evidently in agreement or at this point incapable of understanding the institutional dynamics and implementing a real defense of the territory. What do the political forces of the majority need to understand that the center-right is destroying Taranto? What else do they need to raise their heads and demand respect? From the councilor for economic development Gianni Azzaro – adds Giorno – we expect the situation to be taken head-on and not just with declarations of surrender. In these hours, the parliamentarians and leaders of the Brothers of Italy have rushed to their national convention; we expect – concludes the dem exponent – that they will return to Taranto with the answers that this city deserves and that since they have been in power not only are they unable to give but that they even seem to find pleasure in worsening the living conditions of our province ”.
