BMW loses control and smashes through house wall: driver tests positive for alcohol

BRINDISI – The 44-year-old from Brindisi driving the BMW Serie 5 station wagon involved in the accident this afternoon, Sunday 28 April, in via Umberto Maddalena in the Casale district, had a blood alcohol level exceeding that permitted by law. The man, initially hospitalized under yellow code at the Perrino hospital, was later discharged.

From the video surveillance images viewed by the local police, the car appears to be traveling at high speed. The local police are formalizing the complaints for the traffic violations that have been detected, in addition to the revocation of the license.

The braking and then the bang

The motorist lost control of the vehicle shortly after the traffic light intersection with Viale Duca Degli Abruzzi. It happened around 2.30pm. The vehicle collided with the wall of a house, knocking it down. He then continued the race for about 50 metres, losing the right front wheel, the bumper and other bodywork pieces, before finishing his race sideways, with a spin. Luckily, there were no other cars involved. If a passerby had found himself in the path of the BMW, the consequences would have been dramatic.

Big scare for the residents of the area, who heard a long braking and then the bang. The driver, rescued by 118 personnel, was transported to hospital, alert and conscious.

The asphalt of Via Maddalena has to be completely reclaimed, as it is littered with oil and BMW debris. The stretch of road was initially closed to traffic. The staff of the Pissta company took care of the reclamation and safety of the roadway.

The firefighters and the local police went to the scene and quickly acquired the images taken by the surveillance systems in the area.
