The Municipality of Martina Franca obtained a contribution of 94,855.71 euros from the Civil Protection Section
Regional upon acceptance of the project proposal presented by the competent person
Municipal office within the “POR Puglia 2014–2020 – Action 5.2 “Interventions for the reduction
of fire risk and seismic risk”.
The financed interventions will allow the municipal administration to create a system
integrated monitoring, prediction and prevention of fire risk composed of sensors,
thermal imaging cameras and high-performance technological instruments whose use is also implemented through
real time communication strategy, historicization of event data and transmission
immediately to the Municipal Civil Protection center and to the surveillance and control bodies
present in the area.
This system will be installed in the coming months within the wooded areas of the Nature Reserve
Regional Forest of Pianelle.
Also for the Bosco delle Pianelle Regional Nature Reserve, it was admitted to investigation
another funding request. The Municipality is waiting for the disbursement of the contribution
295,000.00 euros following the application for support presented under the 2014-2020 RDP
Puglia – Measure 8 – Submeasure 8.3 “Support for interventions to prevent damage to property
forestry caused by fires, natural disasters and catastrophic events”. The funds will allow the
implementation of a forest improvement project mainly aimed at strengthening and
strengthening the functionality of forest surfaces in order to prevent and/or combat
consequences due to catastrophic events (fires, natural disasters, etc.) of hydrogeological instability,
drought and floods.
In particular, the project consists in the creation of the infrastructures necessary for the protection and
protection of the area from forest fires, through a fireproof perimeter avenue, forest paths, to allow access to the AIB service. The project also includes multiple interventions
silvicultural improvement of a portion of coppice forest and part of the pine forest.
The project initiative aims to improve the functionality of the forest, also with a view to
reduction of vulnerability, protection of the territory and pursuing the following objectives:
– Protection of the forest ecosystem, improvement of the ecosystem functionality of
forests and guarantee of public safety;
– Conservation and protection of biodiversity;
– Promotion and improvement of sustainability, competitiveness and efficiency in the use of
agricultural resources.

innovative technological tools. These are actions in line with the objectives of Agenda 2030 which
require intensifying measures to combat the consequences of the changes
climate change and to strengthen commitments to protect natural heritage, also with a view to
make cities greener and more sustainable”.
