April 25th, the day of celebration of all free Italians | 7 Municipalities Online

Today, April 25, is a national holiday celebrating the liberation of Italy from Nazi-fascism, the definitive fall of the fascist dictatorship.

An opportunity not to forget the sacrifices and suffering imposed on Italians by fascism and to remember those who, fighting in the Resistance, contributed significantly to the reconquest of the freedom and democracy that we all enjoy today.

Freedom which, seeing what happens in other parts of the world, should NEVER be taken for granted, but on the contrary defended with teeth day after day starting from those of us who provide information; freedom of information and the right of citizens to have pluralistic information is in fact one of the cornerstones of democracy, a non-negotiable principle. The alternative is the fascist showgirls and Goebbels’ propaganda ministry.

The first to not take freedom for granted were precisely the founding fathers who, in what was the politically highest moment in the history of our country, wrote and approved a constitution which was created first of all with the aim of preventing what seen in the darkest twenty years of Italian history repeat itself.

.

To understand this fundamental step, we are helped by the illuminating response that the Christian Democrat Aldo Moro gave to the Honorable Lucifero who, during the session of the constituent assembly on 13 March 1947, expressed the desire that “the new Constitution” was simply afascist and not anti-fascist.

.

We can not – Moro replied – to create an afascist Constitution, that is, we cannot ignore what has been a historical movement of great importance in our country, which in its negativity has overwhelmed consciences and institutions for years”.

We can not forget what was (fascism), because this Constitution emerges from that resistance, from that struggle, from that denial, for which we found ourselves together on the front of resistance and revolutionary war and now we find ourselves together for this commitment to affirmation of the supreme values of human dignity and social life”

.

Starting from this very principle, it is good to remember that the much desired pacification must start from the clear condemnation of fascism without any ifs or buts. Only by placing anti-fascism as a starting point can we hope to give life to a new season.

Those who continue to purposely create divisions by conveying the idea that April 25th is the holiday of only one political party do so purposely to try to weaken the ideals that this anniversary represents.

On this point, the Mayor of Marzabotto is completely right when she states that the Liberation Day is divisive only for those who are fascist or nostalgic.

Let’s say it loudly, Liberation Day is NOT a celebration of just one political party but it is the celebration of ALL free Italians. Precisely for this reason, all political forces that recognize themselves in the ideals of democracy and freedom must unambiguously embrace the values of April 25th and celebrate this day with pride.

.

When this newspaper was founded, the publishing company agreed on the editorial line with the director and the editorial staff and set only one condition: 7 Comuni Online had to have the Italian Constitution as its beacon.

.

Precisely for this reason on the day of the 79th anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-fascism, I reiterate if ever there was a need, that this newspaper is anti-fascist and it could not be otherwise given that, without freedom of the press, journalism no longer exists but only propaganda.

.

Happy April 25th everyone!
