“THEor I’m an anti-fascist”, says Marco Liorni, “I could never praise fascism. I was just recounting the emotions of that day with the perspective of the times. I’m sorry for those who interpreted it in a different way, I should have been clearer but this was my intention.” The conductor of theInheritance he decided to personally respond to the fuss that arose after his comment on the Day of Fascist Faith.

Marco Liorni and the controversy over gold for the homeland

To understand what happened it is necessary to go back to the episode of the quiz two nights ago, and to the answer to a question that talked about the Day of Faith. That is to say the fascist regime’s request to citizens to hand over their wedding rings to their homelandin exchange for worthless rings, to finance the war in Ethiopia wanted by Mussolini.

What happened

Liorni, after the competitor’s response, expressed his opinion on that gesture by the Italians, defining it as “a truly patriotic gesture”. The intervention, however, is was immediately condemned and branded as a eulogy to the twenty years of fascism. In short, the controversy over the censorship of Scurati’s monologue on April 25th had not yet died down in Rai, which already had new blows to parry.

For Marco Liorni the gesture remains patriotic

«When the question appeared on the screen – explains Liorni in a video posted on Instagram. She aroused emotions in me because many times, between my grandparents and my father, who was born in those days, the family talked about it. It was a day of great suffering. Taking off your gold wedding ring to put on an iron onein that Italy, it was a painful gesture, but also of patriotism. It’s what they told me and what History says, seen with the spirit of the times, not with the eyes of today. There were also people who donated and didn’t want to. But the spirit of that day was patriotic.”

The explanation does not convince the web population

The host, remaining firm in his opinion, however, required to reiterate his staunchly anti-totalitarian positions. Not convinced, however, are the people of the Internet, who despite the clarification, have once again explained to Liorni what is wrong with that comment.

«That thing, that gesture, was not patriotic – specifies a user. All our great-grandparents/grandparents say that you didn’t donate gold to your country, they would enter your house and if you refused. This too is history. You can ask anyone. The emotions were very bad, they were full of fear.”

It was unpatriotic because it was forced

And again: «I would like to point out to you, dearest Marco, that patriotism can be defined in this way when there is no coercion. The wedding rings donated to the State in 1935 they occurred in a dictatorial regime in which those who did not do so were reported and I know this because my grandparents told me about it. So this needed to be clarified and you didn’t do it.”

“Let’s all calm down”

However, Liorni does not want to keep the discussion going and closes his video with a final opinion on the issue: «I needed a clarification. I’m sorry for those who interpreted differently, I should have been more clear. I think, in any case, that we all need to calm down a bit, perhaps discuss more constructive issues and in a more civil way.”
