Gela, three million euros to increase the water supply from the Pantanelli well field

New meeting of the control room coordinated by the Prefecture, called to manage the drought emergency throughout the provincial territory. Since March, Siciliacque has reduced the quantities of water throughout the province and not even the recent rains have improved the situation of the artificial reservoirs and natural springs. This morning the mayor, Lucio Greco, took part in an operational table with ATI Idrica, the Basin Authority, Caltaqua and representatives of the municipalities of the province to take stock of the situation, municipality by municipality.

Caltaqua in particular announced that it had “recovered” around 70 liters per second throughout the territory with some short and medium-term interventions. On the northern side of the province, approximately 10 liters per second have already been recovered through the wells of Sommatino, Serradifalco and via Due Fontane in Caltanissetta.

In Gela, approximately three million euros will be financed and used to make the most of the Pantanelli well field, in the Ragusa area. A first target of 25 litres/second has emerged thanks to the improved pipelines and another 25 l/s to enhance the flow from the current sources, also thanks to the excavation of a new well and the improvements of those already active. But the project is medium term, not immediate.

The invitation came from the Prefecture for the municipalities to raise awareness among the population to be economical in the use of water, avoiding waste and improper use.
