There is still a lot to do to break down prejudices and barriers, both material and cultural, that concern the world of disability. This is what emerged from the initiative “A day as a disabled person” which was held yesterday in Naples, in the hall of the historic building that houses the Paolo Colosimo regional institute for the blind and visually impaired, to raise public awareness of the daily life of people with disabilities.

At the meeting, organized by the Guarantor for the Disabled of Campania Paolo Colombo(in collaboration with the Gesco social enterprise group, the Strachan Rodinò Foundation and the Napoliclick portal) and moderated by the journalist Pier Paolo Petino, we talked about the right to health and the missed opportunities due to laws that were never respected as well as the overcoming of architectural barriers and more.

In particular, the speakers reviewed the enabling law on disability just approved by the Government, which marks a positive turning point but is not enough, also due to the insufficient resources available. As he tells us Nazaro Pagano, national president of ANMIC (National Association of the Mutilated and Civil Invalids), who spoke together with Mario Mirabile, president of the Strachan Rodinò Foundation; Lorenzo Latella, general secretary of Cittadinanza Attiva/Patient’s Rights Tribunal; Giuseppe Trieste, honorary president of the Fiaba onlus association.

During the day, the young guests of the Colosimo Institute engaged in artistic and musical performances, with which they demonstrated to the audience of the meeting the results obtained thanks to the training and human paths carried out within the structure of Santa Teresa degli Scalzi . Also present was the welfare councilor of the Municipality of Naples, Luca Trapanesewho we asked to tell us what the municipal administration is doing on these issues.
