Accident on the Sorrentina viaduct, motorists injured

An accident occurred shortly before 5pm along the San Marco viaduct of the Sorrentina state road 145. Two cars were involved in the crash. The impact was extremely violent, so much so that the intervention of the firefighters was necessary to extract the injured from the cockpits of the vehicles. Two 118 ambulances were also on site with medics busy providing first aid to the motorists trapped on board who will then be transported to hospital.

Cars almost completely occupy the roadway of the viaduct and traffic is blocked in both directions. There are long queues both in the direction of Naples and Sorrento, with traffic also congested on the Naples-Salerno motorway near the Castellammare di Stabia toll booths.

Once the injured have been removed, the accident will need to be investigated to establish who is responsible for what happened and the vehicles involved and the debris present along the road will be removed before the overpass can be reopened to traffic.
