fire in the former ‘Camino Real’ nightclub in Pontecagnano – Il Meridiano News

This night a fire devastated the area that once hosted the famous “Camino Real” nightclub in Pontecagnano Faiano, in the province of Salerno. The structure, a few steps from the sea, had been confiscated from organized crime, but having been abandoned for some time, it soon turned into an open-air landfill. Unfortunately, similar incidents are nothing new: fires of this kind have already occurred in recent years.

Due to the size of the fire, a massive intervention was necessary by the firefighters who found themselves faced with a column of black smoke visible for kilometers away. In an attempt to quell the flames they intervened with a fire engine and a tanker, also using foam extinguisher to put out the flames. Due to the amount of waste accumulated in the area, rescue workers had to work for several hours before managing to completely put out the fire.

The causes of the event have not yet been clarified and the events that led to this tragedy are being investigated by the competent authorities.

The former nightclub had already previously been destroyed by a large fire in 2019, and two years later, in 2021, the Prefecture of Salerno had seized the site, which had already become a landfill. In the same year, the area recovery project was announced, which involved the creation of an anti-violence center, financed with funds from the Campania Region intended for the reuse of confiscated assets.
