The weekend opens under the banner of wind which, after the damage of recent days, will blow again in our territory. It will do so in a less intense manner than on Tuesday but still enough to endanger the woods, where an orange alert remains for the risk of fires.
“In the afternoon of Friday 19th – we read in the Civil Protection bulletin – wind reinforcements are expected from the South on the Apennines and the Pavia plain, from the West on the other sectors, in particular on the central-eastern Alps and Pre-Alps; in the evening ventilation strengthened in Vachiavenna and in the Northwest at high altitude, temporarily attenuated elsewhere”.
Then “during the day of Saturday 20 April, moderate to strong foehn ventilation is expected from the morning, widespread over the western sectors and the Alps. It should also be noted that local convective instability may be possible in the central-eastern Pre-Alps and the eastern plain. High danger in the western sectors during strong winds between the morning and afternoon; elsewhere predominantly medium but with strong local variability depending on wind reinforcements”.
With this scenario “we expect phenomena of mainly weak or moderate intensity, but with possible local intensifications, in particular in Mantua and Bresciano. Moderate to strong winds are expected, with average speed values between 35-50 km/h and gust values between 60-80 km/h. Reinforcements will be possible from early morning and persist until late afternoon; attenuated in the evening”.
Starting from Sunday 21st, however, a decreasing risk is expected due to scattered rainfall that will affect the area, particularly in the second part of the day.
It should be noted that, although in a general context of medium/low risk due to the seasonal recovery of vegetation below 1500 metres, the weather and climate conditions, in particular on the western sectors and on the more exposed slopes due to the expected ventilation, they may be such as to locally generate possible fires with high fire intensity and rapid propagation in the Verbano and Lario areas (areas with orange alert color code). Elsewhere, possible conditions locally favorable to the development and propagation of forest fires with low fire intensity and slow propagation are reported.
