Ballon d’Or 2024, here we go: here are the 5 First Category candidates

Edition number 13 of Varese Sport Award will not be able to do without, as always, the Golden Ball of amateur football. From 10.00 tomorrow, Friday 3 Mayit will be possible to vote for your favorite player category by category via our portal.
In this second tranche the top players of the First Category will also dance, ready to grab the coveted prize vote by vote.
The mechanism is always the same: after the preferences collected directly from the coaches, here’s who emerged, and now it’s up to you to decide who will go on stage on Monday 13 May MIV cinema in Varese (click here to book your place). The survey will remain open until midnight on Thursday 9 May and as always it will be possible to express a preference every 6 hours.

FIRST CATEGORY

After a very long three-way fight (given that Folgore Legnano gave up at the end and also exited the playoffs) it was Morazzone who won the title, with Olimpia holding their own until the penultimate day (and which will have to play on playoffs with a still alive Gorla Minore). Luino, on the other hand, bet everything on the Lombardy Cup: all-in which paid off big time given the rossoblù’s triumph in the final. We present to you, in strict alphabetical order, the 5 candidates.

JOAQUIN CARRION (Olimpia Tresiana): double figures (10 goals) for a regular among the candidates. After the super season at Laveno, the class of ’95 has repeated himself with the Olimpia shirt and aims to improve the third place with which he closed the vote last year.

MATTIA GHIZZI (Morazzone): the identity card says class of ’86, the older the field becomes, the more decisive it is. With 24 goals he secured the top of the goalscoring table and, needless to say, he played a crucial role in the rossoblù’s victory of the championship.

LORENZO LERCARA (Luino): much more than an added value for the category. The striker born in 1996 stood out with 11 goals in the championship, but above all he made the difference in the Cup by contributing 5 goals to the rossoblù’s conquest of promotion. Pure talent that deserves other stages.

MATTEO PIAZZA (Olimpia Tresiana): it will be an “internal struggle” given that competing with Carrion will also be his teammate born in ’98 who closed the championship with 19 goals and the certainty of being considered a luxury for the category.

PATRICK SCHULZ (Gorla Minore): certainly one of the happiest notes of the championship, given that the ’04 class was able to establish itself with goals (17) among the greats. The newly promoted team’s reaching the playoffs must largely be attributed to a young striker who looks to the future with ambition.
