“Donate to receive”, yesterday Asit and Avis at the “Scorza” high school in Cosenza

Donation is a voluntary act. An important gesture that can save other lives but which is talked about too little.

A topic that has been discussed for years ASIT – Southern Italy Transplant Association stimulates knowledge and debate, the topic of the seminar “Giving to receive: this strange play on words” took place yesterday in the spaces of the “GB Scorza” scientific high school in Cosenza.

An information meeting aimed at the fifth classes of the city high school, already home to the Pre.Di.Re pilot project. on the prevention and diagnosis of kidney diseases, created with the collaboration of the provincial headquarters of Avis to raise young people’s awareness of the ethical and social value of donation.

Start at 9.30 with the greeting of the school director Aldo Trecroci, followed by the speech of the president of Asit Rachele Celebre, who, supported by the vice president Angela Pastore, explained and motivated the initiative to around a hundred students , divided into two shifts for space reasons.

Dr. Maria Vigna, anesthetist and resuscitator at the Cosenza Hospital, expressed her expertise on the methods in which organ donation occurs, explaining the scientific and legal process linked to it.

The testimony of Professor Alessandra Crispini was significant, as she was a “transplant recipient” and highlighted the human and healthcare experience of which she was the involuntary protagonist, but which left her with a feeling of profound gratitude towards the donor and the team doctor who followed her.

Amleto Pastore, a volunteer at the Avis collection unit in Cosenza and a regular donor, focused on the personal and collective benefits of a fairly simple gesture such as donating blood: donating, he said, means making one’s contribution to well-being and to the healing of people who, for various reasons, find themselves in conditions of suffering, helping them to regain a normal life.

This is the message that Asit and Avis wanted to leave to students now on the threshold of adulthood and therefore more ready to understand the meaning of a choice that can make a difference.
