Direct rail connection Bolzano-Milan, the declaration of intent is signed

BOLZANO. Direct rail connection Bolzano-Milan and a strategic collaboration with focus on the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games: these are the cornerstones of the declaration of intent signed today in Milan – in the presence of the president of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana – between the provincial councilor of Bolzano for transport and infrastructure Daniel Alfrider and the councilor for transport and sustainable mobility of Lombardy Franco Lucente.

“Together with the Lombardy we aim to create a direct regional rail connection, efficient, stable, ecological and sustainable between Bolzano and Milan – explains councilor Daniel Alfreider – and we will also promote ccollaborations between the respective technical offices to ensure an exchange of information and best practices and improve the quality of public mobility in both territories, for the benefit of citizens. We will do it by seizing the great opportunity offered, also in this sense, come on Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Gameswhich will also see theArena Alto Adige in Anterselva for biathlon”.

In detail, the competent South Tyrolean and Lombardy offices will jointly develop a operational proposal for a possible Interregional/Regioexpress connection between Milan and Bolzano in the field of public transport and will define a proposal relating to the methods of collaboration between the respective railway companies.

The proposal will then be submitted to the respective councils for one feasibility assessment and, in the event of a positive outcome, the methods of implementation, operation and financing of the direct connection will be regulated through the signing of a specific agreement between the parties.

With regard to exchange of information and best practicesthe competent offices then undertake to collaborate via imeetings at least every six months and organized on an annual rotation by one of the two administrations: as regards 2024, the Province of Bolzano will be responsible for the organization.
