CATANIA – The Catania police, at the disposal of the police commissioner Giuseppe Bellassai, have intensified the control services of the territory on the occasion of May 1st, Labor Day, a day characterized by a significant influx of tourists and trips out of town, to which are added the musical events organized by some structures on the Plaia coast. All this will lead to a strong presence of cars and people, especially young people, who will crowd the Catania coast throughout the day.
The Catania police headquarters has therefore set up a security program that involves all the police forces. The services were scheduled throughout the day, even in the evening and at night, in the areas characterized by the greatest influx of people and vehicles, including those coming from other cities. Police, carabinieri, financial police and local police patrols are in the field. Public order services are also implemented with the contribution of the teams of the X Mobile Department of Catania.
Monitoring along Viale Kennedy will be carried out by state police patrol cars and motorbikes with checkpoints, making use of canine units. The traffic police, with the help of doctors from the health office of the police station, will carry out checks on the use of alcohol and drugs while driving. Inspections by administrative police officers in accommodation facilities to verify compliance with safety regulations and standards.
To ensure safety in the meeting areas for families and children, in particular at the Plaia grove, there will be police horses that will also move along the coast. The forensic police will also be engaged in constant support to all forces in the field. The eyes of the state police will also be those of the helicopter of the IV Flight Department of Palermo which will fly over the city coast.
In addition to the services on the coast, the police will also be present in the city centre. Anti-robbery services and a garrison at Villa Bellini are planned, also with plainclothes personnel. Controls have been strengthened near places of worship, in the main green areas of the city, on the seafront and in meeting places for families, young people and the elderly. The border police at the port and the airport, the traffic police and the railway police will also contribute to the surveillance system. Finally, particular attention will be paid to the prevention of home burglaries.
