Jakub Mareczko’s sprint decided the second half-stage of the Tour of Hellas. The 30-year-old Corratec – Vini Fantini rider beat Iúri Leitão of Caja Rural, who had won the opening time trial this morning, while Blake Agnoletto, a young Australian competing for ARA, came third | Skip Capital. One step away from the podium was Lorenzo Cataldo who achieved a good placing for Vini Monzon – Savini Due – OMZ, ninth position instead for the Emilian Mattia Pinazzi of VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè.
“I’m enthusiastic about today – declared Jakub Mareczko – Winning is always an incredible feeling. I knew that the second semi-stage would be very suitable for my characteristics, being short and without particular altitude difficulties, and so it was. This morning, in the time trial, I tried to manage myself well and recover as best I could. From the first pedals of the second half-stage I immediately noticed that I was feeling very well. I tried to stay as covered as possible and, once I reached the final stages of the race, I tried to advance, even if it wasn’t easy considering the very high pace and the stress in the race. Despite this, thanks also to the help of the team, I managed to obtain the ideal position that allowed me to achieve this second victory.”
