Fire in Turin in via Vanchiglia, building in the center evacuated

A fire broke out today, at lunchtime, in the center of Turin in via Vanchiglia. The flames, just before half past one, they broke out from the roof of the building residential at number 18.

It is a four-storey building, dating back to 1850, surrounded by scaffolding on a construction site. The fire reportedly broke out while a team of workers was working on the roof. They were engaged in roof restoration work, which had been underway for two months. According to their story, the fire broke out in an attic. After an initial attempt to put out the flames, they rushed into the street. The building was evacuated. There were no injuries.

The firefighters, with a ladder truck, have been working for over an hour and a half hour to put out the fire. The flames are spreading across a large portion of the roof, on the Via degli Artisti side. From the roof, from time to time, comes the sound of small explosions.


Via Vanchiglia was closed to traffic by the municipal police. Buses on line 55 were diverted. The area around the building was also closed to pedestrians.

A column of black smoke, visible from kilometers away, rose into the sky of Turin. Intense, in the air, the smell of burning. In via Vanchiglia, just before 2pm, she arrived Lorenza Patriarca, city councilor, resident in the building.
