Grado’s bathing season inaugurated.
Grado’s bathing season officially starts today with the inauguration ceremony. 2023 was the record year for tourism in Grado, which saw the attendances increase by +9.4% compared to 2022. In a Friuli Venezia Giulia which during 2023 reached 10 million tourist presences for the first time, Grado therefore plays a role of primary importance, recording over 1 million and 427 thousand presences alone.
Limited to the period May-SeptemberGrado recorded an aincrease in attendance of 6.1% compared to the same period in 2022. But the performance was excellent throughout the year and in some ways better in non-summer periodsa fact which, as was underlined during the inauguration, is comforting from a deseasonalization perspective.
When compared to 2022, the attendance on the Island of the Sun grew by 9.4% (in total over 1 million and 427 thousand visitors), recording an increase in both foreign tourists (+9%) and Italians (+10.8%). Very significant in the post-Covid period was the increase in German tourists (+11%) and Eastern Europe (just to name a few examples, Hungary +38.3%; Slovakia +26.6%; Czech Republic +57, 2%).
Plans for the future of Grado.
In addition to the news for the service, illustrated by the president of the Git, it was the extraordinary commissioner who updated on the status of the main issues concerning Grado, including the issue of the renewal of concessions.
Regarding the progress of the spa works, the design activities of the new functional lot of the Terme di Grado are underway which will make a varied series of services available to tourist customers starting from the next summer season 2025.
It involves creating, within the first plan of the rinnovative spa structure, gym, fitness, beauty center, saunas, bar with access from the outside and a small water area, etc., all while waiting for the structure to be expanded to build the new swimming pools and make the entire new spa center attractive and functional. L’The expected investment is just under 5 million euros and the construction tender will be published by June 2024.
Also including the planned expansion of the structure, the overall allocation by the Region for the Terme di Grado amounts to approximately 29 million euros (27.8 New Spas + 1.2 Spa surface rights).
As regards Git interventions, it was allocated in the latest Stability Law 1 million euros for some interventions on the beach. Among the most urgent, those that will allow the renovation of a large part of the existing toilets (Solarium and entrance n. 7) and the restoration of some particularly old structures (Palazzina antica terme). The works will start at the end of the 2024 summer season and will be completed by spring 2025.
Space also for DiscoverAquileia.
At the end of the inauguration ceremony, the vernissage of the exhibition of works of art “The beauty of women” was held in the main hall of the spa and the opening official at the main beach entrance of the DiscoverAquileia Visitor Center.
Created by Fondazione Aquileia and GIT Grado, its partner among others is PromoTurismoFVG, and will be open in May on weekends (9.00 – 20.00), in June, July and August on holidays and weekends from 9.00 to 23.00 and on weekdays from 5pm to 11pm.
