For the union, the company did not keep its commitment to proceed with the hiring of 162 employees in two phases of the former American multinational but only 70 employees
The meeting for the Baomarc dispute was held today at MIMIT in Rome, at the request of the trade unions, between the trade unions, the Abruzzo Region, the Government and the Chinese multinational.
Baomac present in Italy with around 365, is controlled by the Chinese steel group Baowu, the first supplier of flat steel for the Stellantis Group, in 2018 it took over the former Honeywell plant in Val di Sangro (CH) at the symbolic cost of 1 euro with the commitment signed at the ministerial level to proceed with the hiring of 162 employees in two phases of the former American multinational.
“Currently, despite the requests made by the union at the regional level, the company has not respected the signed agreement and has proceeded with the hiring of only 70 employees of the former Honeywell. Also on the commitment to create, again in Val di Sangro, a sheet metal cutting plant that would have employed 52 workers has failed. Today the company leaders represented by Dr. Novarino and Dr seen in recent years, between the pandemic and the crisis, a drop in orders from Stellantis, their only client, of -48%, this, together with the request for renegotiation of the contract by Stellantis which generated a commercial dispute, slowed down the plan industrial of the Group and therefore of hiring.” A note from Fim Cisl Abruzzo Molise explains which continues: “For Fim Cisl the company’s justifications are not sustainable, given that the agreement and the choice of Baomac over other competitors was determined also and above all depending on the number of hires. The company therefore remains in default for us with respect to the agreement signed on 11 December 2018 at the MiSE which provided for the investment of 30 million euros and the assumption of two phases: 110 workers immediately and then 52, compared to approximately 400 ex-Honeywell employees. The justifications that the company has put on the table are therefore not objectively confirmed given the failure to comply with phase one of the agreement which was supposed to provide for 110 hirings.”
The Government for its part has undertaken to monitor the situation of Baomac also with respect to the agreements with the single client Stellantis and requested a discussion between organizations and the company with the support of the Abruzzo Region to update the scope of hiring with respect to the employee pool and reconvene , by the first half of July 2024, a table at MIMIT.
