Francesco Pio Maimone murder, Valda recognized as the killer by a witness during the trial

“I heard the first shot, then I saw him shoot again, at eye level.” It is with these words that, in a courtroom of the Assize Court of Naples, during today’s hearing, a witness recognized Francesco Pio Valda20 years old, as the killer of Francesco Pio Maimone18 years old, killed with a gunshot on 20 March 2023 on the seafront in Naples, in the Mergellina chalet area.

The trial of Francesco Pio Valda – considered the one who shot at the height of an argument that night of March 20 last year, hitting Maimone, who was there with some friends and who was unrelated to the affair – is proceeding not without problems. In fact, during one of the hearings that have already been held, one of the witnesses was indicted for false testimony. This is the cousin of the owner of one of the chalets where the crime took place, who in the courtroom retracted some statements previously made, saying he was unable to recognize the participants in the dispute at the end of which Valda allegedly shot, killing Maimone.

Precisely for this reason, after the indictment of the witness, to avoid conditioning, the prosecutor Antonella Fratello decided to secret the list of witnesses who will take turns during the trial. The next hearings in the trial involving Francesco Pio Valda will take place on 8 and 14 May,
