He has been away from the scene for thirty years, but people still talk about him: an indication that Mauro Repetto has left a mark on national pop culture and in the memory of a generation.

Repetto will debut as a one man show on April 28th in Bergamo. On stage he will speak, dance and sing accompanied by artificial intelligence.

Mauro Repetto, who defines himself as “someone who dreamed, a visionary”, recently spoke about himself when speaking to the Corriere della Sera:

Stefano Salvati and Maurizio Colombi, two friends, proposed this adventure to me. The epic of 883 is moved to the Middle Ages, we become minstrels who try to get the songs to Count Claudio Cecchetto”, says Repetto. He will sing all the most famous songs, including a little gem: the version of “Finamente tu” in English, as it was originally born.

The show will be a game of mirrors and references, says Repetto:

Three screens will allow me to talk to Max and me as young people. Spider-Man will be a kind of Beatrice for Dante who however will also list all my flaws, with a lot of self-irony.

The relationship with Max Pezzali

The show had the blessing of former colleague and close friend Max Pezzali:

We are lucky enough to have always been friends and never colleagues. When I told her about it she said “great”, for him it’s as cool as if I told him I’m going on holiday. I told him that I will invite him and that we will laugh hard together. Between us there will always be this bar dimension and in fact as soon as everything became work, we almost spoke to each other less.

Then the story of how Max Pezzali took his lead from 883 when the duo was at the peak of their career:

He and I grew up together and this is worth more than anything else. That time he understood in 10 seconds, he knew very well that I wasn’t leaving the 883, but that I needed another dream. Max, with his surrealist humor, is the funniest person I’ve ever met, as well as the greatest friend of my life.

Mauro Repetto today

Today Mauro Repetto lives in Paris and work on Disneyland, where he organizes events. At the beginning of his new life, Repetto dressed as a cowboy even though he didn’t need to work since the rich royalties of 883 were enough to guarantee him a comfortable existence.

In 2023 his autobiography was published by Mondadori entitled “I didn’t kill Spider-Man. The 883 and the pursuit of happiness”.
