Defective gas heater, 47 year old dies from monoxide poisoning

Gabriela Birgaoanu, 47 years old, of Romanian origins, died in the night between Monday and Tuesday in her home in Borgo Capanne, a hamlet of Granaglione in the municipality of Alto Reno Terme. From the investigations carried out by the police, 118 and the firefighters who intervened on the spot, the woman was poisoned by the carbon monoxide released by a wood stove. The woman had given her room to some of her relatives, who were her guests for a few days, and she slept in a room without heating. Probably the stove, which had not been used for some time, released the toxic substance that killed her. Hers is not the only case of carbon monoxide poisoning in recent times.

Who was Gabriela

The victim had lived in the Bolognese Apennines for several years together with her adult daughter. In the house with her, on the night she died, there were some of her relatives who had gone to visit the 47-year-old for Orthodox Easter. Fortunately, none of them were poisoned. It was Gabriela’s family who raised the alarm on Monday morning, but there was nothing left for the woman to do. The judiciary, after the necessary investigations, has already returned the body to the family to allow them to organize the funeral.
