Istat, inflation rising in March: limited change in Liguria (+0.3%)

In March, inflation rose slightly, reaching 1.2% on an annual basis from 0.8% in the previous month, however below the 1.3% indicated in the preliminary estimate. However, the growth in consumer prices on a monthly basis is zero. This is what emerges from the latest Istat report.

The increase in inflation in Liguria was limited and in March it was +0.3%: in Genoa the variation was +0.5%, one of the lowest among Italian capitals and large municipalities.

At a national level, a slight acceleration reflects the easing of the year-on-year decline in the prices of energy goods (-10.8% from -17.3% in February), both for the regulated and unregulated component. Support for inflation is also due to the acceleration in the prices of transport-related services (+4.5% from +3.8%). On the other hand, the prices of unprocessed food products also showed a slowdown in March (+2.6% from +4.4%). The annual dynamics of “shopping cart” prices slowed down (+2.6%), while underlying inflation stood at +2.3% (stable compared to the previous month).

With reference to five divisions of the national territory, a widespread acceleration in inflation was recorded in March. The percentage change on an annual basis is higher than the national one in the North-East (from +0.9% to +1.4%), in the Center (from +1.0%) and in the South (from +0.7 %) both at +1.3%, while it is lower in the Islands (from +0.2% in February to +1.0%) and in North-West (from +0.6% to +0.9%).
