Two weeks before the open city council meeting Sant’Agata de’ Goti and by the provincial assembly of mayors celebrated in Beneventofor the hospital «Saint Alphonsus Maria de’ Liguori” nothing has changed. This has been denounced once again by the Civic Movement for the Hospital, which once again raises questions relating to the coverage of night shifts in the emergency room and the implementation of decree 41. «Two weeks after the open municipal council, nothing or little has been done – the activists say -. We received a first response, which gave rise to hope, at the mayors’ meeting. At that time, a request for a meeting was drawn up addressed to the hospital management. The doctor Morgante he had in fact deserted the assembly and dismissed everyone with a letter, which had sparked a wave of general indignation which however cooled down in the following days”.

«The document – the activists explain – lists the services which, according to the hospital management, would be provided at De’ Liguori. What is reported is absolutely inconsistent with the real situation. The Emergency room it is currently weakened due to lack of equipment and personnel. The department of Internal Medicine It is understaffed with medical staff, so it is not possible to cover all shifts. The doctor on duty is divided between the department and the emergency room. The Rehabilitation department has been merged with the Internal Medicine department. No more hospitalizations have been accepted since December 13, diverting patients to other facilities. Outpatient activities are reduced, above all due to the transfer of electro-medical instruments from Sant’Agata to Benevento: the latest, that of the Tecartherapy device. There is also a reference to the creation of a community house and a territorial operations center, projects that have long been archived. Also the agreement with the “Pascale” is spent to demonstrate that in some way work is being done to increase services. But we know well that this, despite being a great opportunity and a source of pride, is different from a hospital equipped with departments and an emergency room.” «We feel cheated: we will claim – say the activists – our right to health until the end and, if the path of decree 41/2019 is no longer viable, we will find another one. Without the burden of“San Pio” company».

Meanwhile the Samnite deputy Francesco Maria Rubano asks for an urgent meeting with the governor DeLuca to discuss hospital issues. «The time has come – explains the parliamentarian of Forza Italia – to act with determination and responsibility to guarantee the quality and accessibility of medical care for all citizens. We cannot afford any further delays or indecision. We held an open municipal council, there was the mayors’ assembly which again requested a meeting with the director Maria Morgante, however, so far no satisfactory feedback has been obtained. It is clear that the disappointing director does not have decision-making power, but she acts as an executor of Governor De Luca’s wishes. Contacting De Luca directly has become the only way forward. We cannot afford to waste any more time on useless bureaucratic discussions. It is crucial to obtain concrete answers and immediate actions”. “The suspicion arises – he adds – that some may intentionally postpone moves to avoid a direct confrontation with De Luca and guarantee a possible agreement after the European elections. We cannot allow personal or political interests to influence our ability to act for the good of the community.”
