Sicily. Fighting fires. The Region’s tender to rent two helicopters is unsuccessful
Descriptive text here

The tender to rent two maxi helicopters to fight fires in Sicily was unsuccessful. On the table there were 14 million euros, sums from the Region, for two helicopters capable of transporting 5 thousand litres.

Fundamental means to deal with the summer fire emergency. But no one came forward and the race was deserted.

A new alarm was raised yesterday at the regional environmental department. Because the government had bet on those latest generation helicopters to have an extra weapon capable of attacking fires with greater force even on sirocco days. Sardinia had also published a tender to rent 5,000 liter helicopters per trip and no one came forward.

It seems that the companies that have these helicopters prefer to wait for calls from the Civil Protection (since they can transport various useful material in emergencies) or from the bodies that intervene in war zones to provide aid.
