Rome, 9 April. (Adnkronos Health) – Artificial intelligence “will also strongly modify the ways of taking charge of health and assistance interventions. The golden age of medicine will begin, with tools so effective that they can truly give a lot of hope to many sick people, to be able to solve many diseases, reduce much suffering. But alongside this, the hands, eyes and head of the doctor will always remain: the ‘traditional’ approach and knowledge will still remain the basis.” The president of the Federation of Medical Associations (Fnomceo), Filippo Anelli, agrees with the words of the director of the World Health Organization Europe, Hans Kluge, who in a detailed interview given to Adnkronos Salute also touches on the theme of the revolutionary scope of AI for the sector.

Anelli highlights that with ‘intelligent’ technology “some jobs, even in the healthcare sector, will probably change or disappear, others will become even more important. Today for example – he underlines to Adnkronos Salute – we must teach surgeons to perform operations through robotics Robots will increasingly be ‘autonomous’ in carrying out surgical operations, because they are much more precise, reducing the negative consequences that may exist. But precisely because we operate using machines, it is necessary to teach new surgeons – alongside the most innovative techniques – the old methodologies, the use of the scalpel, because the control and possibility of intervention by the surgeon, if necessary, remain indispensable”, specifies Anelli.

The Ai, therefore, “will represent a radical turning point and will open up incredible possibilities for treatment, but certainly – reiterates the Fnomceo president – it will not mean ‘archiving’ the traditional way of being a doctor, because the relationship with the patient must remain absolutely fundamental and the Traditional methodologies will retain their usefulness.”
