SpaceX is trying to mitigate the largest upfront cost of subscribing to its satellite Internet service, namely the new Starlink new Starlink by offering refurbished kits.

The used Starlink dish, router and installation equipment will cost $399, rather than the usual $599 that SpaceX charges for new equipment.

SpaceX is now embarking on a retail initiative, with standard Starlink kits now available at Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, and recently, even Target.

Since there isn’t much to wear or break in the new powerful Wi-fi 6 router antenna or router, Starlink Internet subscribers can now purchase the low-cost equipment with little worry.

As an added incentive, SpaceX is offering a $1 satellite internet trial subscription, which allows the user to test Starlink for just one dollar before deciding to return it.

The user can return the Starlink kit they purchased for one dollar, while the $120 per month residential service fee they were charged for the 30-day trial period will also be refunded.

“TheFull refund includes $1 hardware cost plus first month of service“says SpaceX. The shipping cost to return the kit is not included in the refund. However, SpaceX will send a pre-paid return label via email if the service is canceled before the end of the 30-day trial period.

Starlink’s $1 trial offer, however, is only available to new customers in some US states, as well as Australia and New Zealand, to spread the service to remote areas.
