Viterbo – He hits a motorbike with his car and runs away, then goes to the police station to report the damage to his mirror. Once identified, the man’s license was revoked. The victim, an 18-year-old, ended up in hospital with serious injuries.
“In recent days – the police station said in a note -, a man driving his car, while driving along a street in the city center of Viterbo, while overtaking a moped, hit it with his right mirror, causing it to skid and end up on the ground.
Without ascertaining what had happened, the driver of the car continued his journey, while the eighteen-year-old riding the moped suffered rather serious injuries following the collision.
State police personnel from the Viterbo traffic police section, following immediate and in-depth investigations, managed to identify the culprit, who was also responsible for having unjustly filed a complaint against unknown persons for damaging the mirror of his vehicle.
The man, whose driving license was taken away, was reported to the judicial authorities while at liberty.”
Presumption of innocence
In the Italian criminal system the presumption of innocence applies until the final sentence. Presumption of innocence which is based on article 27 of the Italian constitution according to which a person “is not considered guilty until finally convicted”.
