The Court of Bari has issued a sentence concerning two entrepreneurs, Gaetano and Vito Davide Canosino, who operate as legal representatives of the companies 3MC and Penta srl.

They were convicted of unfair commercial practices related to the supply of Ffp2 and Ffp3 masks during the 2020 lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the accusation, their companies increased the prices of the masks supplied to the Apulian local health authorities, with increases of up to 4000%.

The entrepreneurs received a suspended prison sentence of one year and six months and a fine of 10,000 euros. They were also banned from operating businesses requiring special permits.

The defendants, assisted by lawyers Angelo Loizzi and Michele Laforgia, were acquitted of the charge of having caused the shortage of masks on the market due to speculative practices. Other entrepreneurs involved in the case, such as Elio Rubino (Aesse Hospital srl), Romario Matteo Fumagalli (Sterimed) and Massimiliano Aniello De Marco (Hospital Services), were also acquitted of similar charges.

The Bari Prosecutor’s Office had originally requested sentences ranging from one year and six months to two years in prison.
