VARS – Valentina Greggio from Verbano won for the fourth time world title in speed skiing. The strong wind did not allow Vars, France, to compete in the final phase of the world championship and after a long wait at altitude, the jury decided to cancel the trials, which had already been postponed by a day for the same reasons.
There ranking of the 2024 World Championships it was therefore based on the last run carried out, which saw the Verbanese ahead of everyone with a speed of 226.429 km/h, followed by the host Clea Martinez (222.235 km/h) and the Swede Mathilda Persson (217.496 km/h ).
For thirty-three-year-old Valentina Greggio, representative of the Club de Ski Valtournanche, it is about fourth world championship gold in the specialtyafter those obtained in 2015 in the Grandvalire Pyrenees, in 2017 in the Swedish Idre and in 2022 in Vars.
The Piedmontese is also the holder of the world speed record, set in Vars at 247.083 km/h in March 2016.
The men’s world title went to the home favorite Simon Billy: the Frenchman with the 231.436 km/h reached on Friday left behind the Czech Radin Palam (230.577 km/h) and the Austrian Manuel Kramer (229.284 km/h) thus completing the podium
Simone Origone from Valle d’Aosta was disqualified due to a technical problem with his materials at the end of the run which would prove decisive. However, Samuele Capello was eliminated in the previous round and thus closes the ranking in 29th place.
