A large fire broke out this afternoon, Thursday 28 March, in Usmate, in the industrial area of the hamlet of Velate.
A thick column of black smoke
The fire, still in progress, broke out in the logistical warehouse of ferrous material of the Eur-Acciai plant, at number 2 of Viale delle Industrie, near the cemetery.
According to initial information, it appears that a worker was carrying out some work on a machine that had short-circuited and the flames then spread.
The rescue
A dense black column of smoke is visible even several kilometers away. Several fire brigade vehicles were brought to the site (2 fire engines, 3 tankers, 1 ladder truck, 1 rescue truck for a total of approximately 30 men), the Carabinieri, the local police, and three code red ambulances. The mayor was also on site Lisa Mandelli.
One person injured and several intoxicated
According to the latest information, a worker was injured and several colleagues were intoxicated. For a total of 11 people (a 21-year-old, a 25-year-old, three 30-year-olds, a 31-year-old, a 32-year-old, a 35-year-old, a 39-year-old, a 49-year-old and a 62-year-old), none in serious condition. The flames were quickly contained inside the warehouse, outside which several trucks were parked.
